The Parish owes the first half of its name to the fact that the Manor was formerly held by the Monastery of St Augustine at Bristol. The name Leigh in Doomsday Book ‘Lege’ has reference to meadow land and in a document noted below there is mention of meadows at Leigh.
Today Abbots Leigh means some of the best semi rural housing available anywhere in the south west. Properties here really are high end and for good reason. Very large holdings, Village feel, 3 miles from Clifton and the same distance to the M5. Abbots Leigh has long been the choice of the well heeled.
More recently there have been some newer and slightly smaller (affordable-ish) houses built but even these command a high price in comparison
