History
Nailsea Court is believed in part to date from medieval times and has had several notable owners including Richard Perceval who deciphered documents that aided in defeating the Spanish Armada. As a consequence, Nailsea Court was called "The house that saved England" by Bishop Kennion and in 1574 Elizabeth I is believed to have visited the house. Perceval Place is the central larger wing of the house, which was created when the building was very sympathetically divided some nineteen years ago under the supervision of The National Trust and English Heritage. The very spacious accommodation is enriched with a host of impressive original features and later well-matched additions creating a charming home with many architecturally and historically important elements including fine fireplaces, a superb Jacobean staircase, mullioned and leaded light windows, oak panelling, exposed beams, a medieval stained glass window, carved inscriptions and carved doors with two doors of notable merit being the Nailsea door and the Bristol door with stunning detailed and rare Jacobean carvings.
